Harkány Spa
A medicinal spa south of Pécs, about 40 minutes by bus. The medicinal water rises from 50-70 metres down at an average of 62 degrees. Its main component is carbonyl sulphide, which breaks down into hydrogen sulphide and gives the water its distinctive smell. The compound was discovered here in the 1860s, and the medicinal water itself as early as 1823, when the area was drained. It is mainly recommended for musculoskeletal, joint and back problems.
The medicinal baths are open all year, the outdoor pools and the slide park from May to September. Check opening hours and prices at harkanyfurdo.hu.
Thermal Spa Siklós
A leisure and thermal spa at the foot of Siklós Castle, about 40-50 minutes by bus. The indoor section is open all year. It has twelve pools in total and a sauna area, and the pools are surrounded by "colourful bastions" that echo the castle. The outdoor pools are open in summer. The castle is a few hundred metres away, so you can easily do both in a day. siklosfurdo.hu
Sikonda
A district of the town of Komló in the Mecsek hills, north of Pécs. The baths are now part of a hotel but also welcome day visitors. Alkaline thermal water containing lithium, three indoor pools and one outdoor pool; the outdoor pool is open from late May to early October, depending on the weather. There is no direct bus: you usually have to change in Komló.
Hullámfürdő, Pécs 21 min
The city's swimming pool and lido, 21 minutes from the building. It's not a medicinal spa: an indoor sports pool all year round, and in summer an outdoor lido with a wave pool and a sauna. It has been a wave pool since 1935 (Hullámfürdő means wave bath), and its predecessor opened in 1926. You'll find the opening hours on the PSN Zrt. website.
